FACEBOOK DEALS IN DENMARK

The most popular social network in Denmark, Facebook is about to launch Facebook Deals, which is all about presenting discount for users from companies like McDonalds and 7Eleven. The idea is based on the "check in" GPS function in the Facebook application, and with Facebook Deals users can spot "Deals" from companies or shops in the area, and see if there is a "Deal" like e.g. discount on a McDonalds burger.

If the user/consumer likes the offer, let's say the burger, they click on it, and shows their phone to the staff in the restaurant they will get the burger, and the "Deal" will be announced on the comsumers Facebook wall.

No one doubt the fact that mobile devices (especially smartphones) will play a dominating and leading role in consumer behavior in the coming years. An example. Every second sold mobile phone in Denmark is a smartphone. An online trend which the majority of the Danish media companies like Politiken, Berlingske Media, Børsen etc.have been making use of years ago. They have all optimized their websites for mobile devices, iPhone and recently iPad. And in a short while we will see not only iPhone apps, but also iPad apps coming out.

Personally I browse a lot of websites from my sofa on my iPhone and if possibly I try to bookmark every iPhone optimized site I find interesting. As it is today I have not found a ton of iPhone optimized websites. But it will change quickly according to the consumers mobile habits. Making your website look good on mobile platforms will be more important each day and in 2011 we will see a lot more mobile websites.

A little month ago I attended a morning seminar about apps for smartphones arranged by DIS/PLAY and Greener Pastures. On this seminar the app company Greener Pastures told us how they experienced the development with Danish apps - an uphill business until Danske Bank launched their app for iPhone and later on for Android smartphones.

Greener Pastures told the audience, including me, how important design and usability is - when you design an app. It is so different from making a CMS website or a regular website - you can tell when you download an app - and you don't like the design or navigation: Delete!

QR CODES

Through my job as a digital consultant I came across QR codes, which is the initialism of Quick Response, a few times. A QR Code is a matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with camera, and smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on white background and the information encoded can contain website URL’s, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and other personal messages or data.

QR Codes was created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994 and the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes and it's widely used in primarily Japan and Asia - but because of the rising use of smartphones and mobile phones with integrated camera the use and potential with QR codes or mobile tags are to be seen everywhere in the public space, advertising campaigns, events, museums, super markets and so on. The potential is huge - and eg. Calvin Klein has already used QR codes in a marketing campaign. QR codes can be used both in offline or online marketing campaigns - I guess the only barrier is your creativity.

GHOSTLY RECORDS IPHONE APPLICATION

Ghostly Record’s new iPhone/iPod Touch app is an innovative application. The apps purpose is to let you sample all kinds of music from Ghostly records based on mood, color,  style, etc. The application take care of the rest, picking songs that fit your mood and probably introducing you to some artists you may not have heard.

A nice way to market music in a digital age where consumers has not got a lot of loyality towards the music industry. Furthermore the application has a beautiful design:
